A Bavarian comedy
“Astutuli”, that is to say, the witty, overconfident people who are all too easily taken in by a clever swindler. No one wants to be the fool, and so the audience first lose their healthy eye for the truth, then their clothes, their wallets and finally all their dignity. “It’s all a fantasy” shouts the trickster before he and his accomplice make off with the loot. A trickster’s play, then, about a dazzling and enchanting work of art, and behind it, unnoticed until the very end, deceit, trickery and theft, portrayed in Carl Orff’s “wurzelbairische” violence of words and music.
