Hundreds of millions of farm animals are transported in and out of the EU every year before they end up in our supermarkets and ultimately on our plates. But what exactly does the journey of the animals look like? Why do chickens suffer more than pigs and cattle? And what will the new animal welfare law achieve?
Author Manfred Karremann takes a look behind the scenes. “On transports, the suffering between the stable and the slaughterhouse becomes visible,” is his experience. That’s why he takes viewers into absolutely taboo areas where no camera normally goes. What does the journey of the animals whose milk we drink and whose meat ends up on our plates look like? The lives of these animals are often short, but the journey to slaughter can be very long.
